Playing With Silence

We will teach how to improvise scenes through complete silence. Too many times, words get in the way of progressing a scene. Your mouth moves faster than your brain, leading to information overflow and chaos. We will help improvisers slow  down and connect with their scene partners.

Brotha Brotha

Improv for Life

This workshop will speak to the usefulness of improv as a tool in daily life. Improv is a means of utilizing everything you’ve got to get everything you need. It allows you to “roll with the punches” and be your best self in every moment by acknowledging every gift you’re given and supporting those around you. This is a root-level workshop that is useful to faculty, staff, & students alike.

Coko & Daphney

Truth In Scenes

Some of the best improvised comedy is the space between words. Improv isn’t just about quick wit — sometimes the funniest thing you can say in a scene is simply speaking your truth. This workshop explores how honesty, playing the reality of the moment, and bringing in your emotional truth can be the most rewarding. This workshop is for performers who want to use their physicality (including those with English as a Second Language) to hone their nonverbal and emotional communication skills.

Juliet & Juliet

No-Fear Shakespeare: I Can't Believe It's Not William!

Intimidated by William? Not sure how you feel about this Shakespeare guy? In love with his work but never had the chance to get up on stage and make his words your own? This is the workshop for you, no experience performing improv or Shakespeare necessary!

We’ll cover all the basics you need to improvise the Bard’s work as though you’ve stepped right out of the 16th century and into an improv scene. We’ll get familiar with Shakespeare’s work, then explore and play with some of the basic building blocks, including wild metaphors, bold monologues, and passionate characters.

Storytelling/Narrative Workshop

Join us and make sure you finish your show before the blackout.

Taking Your Power Back (Breaking Stereotypes)

It can be easy to use stereotypes to get an easy laugh, but great improv shouldn’t rely on gimmicks. This workshop focuses on making intelligent choices in scenes that shatter stereotypical expectations.

FST Improv

Free-form Improvisation

This workshop explores the makings of the unique style of Big Bang free-form improvisation. This mindset is built on the concept of “follow the funny” and proposes that every single moment, beat, line and movement in a show can be deconstructed and used to lead you to the next scene.

During this exploration and  deconstruction of content, a language and pattern are established that help define form where previously there was no form. Students will review the tools that will enable them to create a unique free-form performance every time they hit the stage. We will review the ideas of listening to what the show wants, what can be funny, fluid editing and creating an experience that is a result of the space, the cast and the audience itself.

PREACH!

It’s a party, it’s a party, at the PREACH workshop!!!

PREACH is a hybrid form, infusing improvisation, spoken word and story telling. This workshop will explore all these mediums, and teach you to focus on making your scene partners the most important people, studying and writing poetry.” We’ll be focusing on individual storytelling—to have confidence in telling YOUR story—as well as ensemble based collaboration. Through this workshop, we ask you for three things, bring a journal, bring your complete truth, bring respect forthe space and your scene partners. P.S. Be ready to freestyle.

North Coast

In this workshop, we’ll use our minds and bodies to play and find fun gifts to surprise ourselves and our scene partners with to rediscover how joyful improv can be when there’s no “right” answer. A mix of scene work and individual character exercises will leave you with the tools to create memorable and unique characters with distinct perspectives.

DyNasty

It’s not always black and white: using your personal history to create vibrant characters

News Flash! Improv is not known for its diversity. But that’s all changing. Performers and casts are becoming more representative of the global tapestry, and so too are our audiences. So why do we keep giving them the same characters? We each carry with us a unique story and history; and through this workshop, we will tap into that which makes us unique in order to create rich multi dimensional characters.

Characters who are truthfully influenced by their current environment, and flavored by their culture, heritage, geography, and past. Characters whose relationship with each other drive engaging and honest scenes, to which audiences can connect.

Heraldo

Fill The Space

This workshop will focus on exercises designed to heighten your individual and group physical play, using the environment in order to create richer scenes, and finding ways to help you feel more grounded while you play.
